Boeing and SkyNRG Collaborate to Scale Sustainable Aviation Fuels Globally

Boeing, SkyNRG, and SkyNRG Americas today announced a collaboration to increase the availability and usage of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) throughout the globe. Boeing will also contribute to SkyNRG Americas' SAF manufacturing project, in which Alaska Airlines is already a partner.

Boeing, SkyNRG, and SkyNRG Americas will collaborate to expedite SAF development worldwide, focusing on expanding production capacity, increasing awareness, and engaging stakeholders throughout the value chain, including airlines, governments, and environmental groups.

SkyNRG is a pioneer in the SAF sector, procuring and distributing SAF, developing production capacity, consulting on policy choices, managing corporate SAF programs, and taking the high road on sustainability. SkyNRG Americas is a new business that aims to increase SAF production in North America. Its first dedicated SAF manufacturing plant in the United States will serve airports and airlines on the West Coast. Boeing's participation in the project involves the procurement of SAF in advance from this facility for company flight testing and other activities.

Boeing's long-term industry leadership and investment in SAF serve as the foundation for this collaboration. The company began SAF test flights in 2008 and assisted in gaining commercial use approval in 2011. The Boeing ecoDemonstrator utilizes SAF for all flight test programs, and in 2018, it accomplished the world's first commercial airplane flight operating just SAF. Boeing said earlier this year that its commercial aircraft would be capable of and certified to fly on 100% SAF by 2030.
