You may have heard about it, or it may be news to you: KLM is using Sustainable Aviation Fuel – a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels – on a number of its flights. In fact, KLM was the first airline to operate a commercial flight in 2011 using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). What’s more, KLM has committed itself for a 10-year period to the development and purchase of 75,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel a year.

Inflight Connectivity Continues Making Global Strides

Article | March 3, 2020

With our 2020 predictions series wrapped up, one common theme we saw across different thought leaders was the increasing presence of inflight connectivity (IFC) in the aviation ecosystem. In addition to contributing to the passenger experience, IFC enables a more robust and higher value proposition to airlines for operating the aircraft. In recognition of this important theme, we captured a few industry news stories highlighting IFC’s growing influence in the aviation ecosystem in our latest roundup. Read below for more stories about how IFC is shaping the present and future of the aviation industry: Last month, Inmarsat announced that its GX Aviation solution reached the milestone of powering 1 million free inflight Wi-Fi sessions for Air New Zealand, approximately one year after the airline moved towards a free inflight Wi-Fi model.

Why The Airbus A220 Is The Plane Of The Future

Article | February 11, 2020

The Airbus A220 isn’t really a new aircraft. Bombardier first flew the CSeries in September 2013, with its entry into service in July 2016. And yet, the A220 seems to be answering problems that we’re not quite having yet. Airbus predicts a need for 7,000 A220s over the next two decades, and that’s probably not too overoptimistic. Here’s how the A220 is the plane of the future, today. The landscape of aviation is changing. In the past, airlines operated on hub and spoke models, passengers were happy to fit around schedules and the price of jet fuel was so low that efficiency wasn’t a huge consideration. Clearly, aviation today is very different.

Which Aircraft Have The Longest Range?

Article | March 20, 2020

Aircraft are built to travel vast distances quickly. But just how far can an aircraft fly, and which aircraft can fly the longest? Have a guess and see how right you are. As to make this a fair comparison, there are a few caveats as to ‘which aircraft can fly the furthest’. The first is that the aircraft must be in use by airlines or be under serious development. We don’t want to include a one-off prototype that can fly around the world on a single tank if you can’t buy a ticket to fly on it. We will be looking at jet propulsion aircraft and not planes that use other forms of movement.
