WestJet is scrapping several flights from Calgary and Edmonton in favour of a beefed up schedule out of Toronto. The Calgary-based airline confirmed Monday that WestJet Encore is reducing service from Calgary to Edmonton as of March 5, dropping one daily flight in each direction from the schedule. Canadian operator WestJet is planning a new transatlantic service. The Boeing 737 operated flight would be used to connect Canada’s Halifax to Manchester in the United Kingdom. The seasonal flight is set to operate over the 2020 summer period. WestJet is launching its third route from Halifax to the United Kingdom this summer. Qatar Airways has announced a codeshare partnership with Deutsche Bahn (DB) the German railway operator, offering its passengers connections to and from eight key destinations in Germany, according to a press release issued by the airline. The Oneworld carrier currently operates 35 weekly flights between Doha Hamad Int'l and the German cities of Frankfurt Int'l (2x daily), Munich (2x daily), and Berlin Tegel (1x daily). WestJet Airlines says it will use low fares to compete with new discount rival NewLeaf but its "ancillary revenue" will come only from extra fees that it thinks will "add value" for its guests. The Calgary-based airline's chief financial officer told an investor conference Thursday that WestJet won't follow NewLeaf by charging passengers for carry-on baggage or for printing boarding passes at the airport....
