Air Corsica Takes Delivery of First ATR 72-600 Aircraft Powered
Pratt & Whitney, a Raytheon Technologies business, ATR and Air Corsica today celebrated the delivery of the first PW127XT-M-powered next generation of ATR 72-600 aircraft. The debut of the upgraded PW127XT engine series, which will be the standard powerplant for all ATR42/72-600s, delivers significant improvement in operating costs, maintenance, and sustainability for regional turboprops. Pratt & Whitney Canada has also signed a customized 15-year Fleet Management™ Program (FMP™) agreement with the airline for the long-term maintenance of the PW127XT-M engines, which provides predictable, pay-per-hour engine maintenance, lower operating costs, and maximized engine value by unlocking its full time on wing capability.

"Our relationship with Pratt & Whitney Canada goes back more than three decades, when Air Corsica launched inaugural service with an all-ATR fleet in 1990 equipped with Pratt & Whitney Canada's PW100 engines,We have seen great success with these dependable engines that allow our airframe to accommodate the challenges of flying short legs all year long, and connecting our island communities to mainland. The flexibility of the new fleet of ATR aircraft, powered by the versatile PW127XT-M engines and optimized with the Fleet Management™ Program, will allow us to sustainably grow and prosper over the decades to come."

Hervé Pierret, Member of Management Board, Air Corsica

Revealed at the Dubai Airshow in November 2021 and certified by Transport Canada Civil Aviation in August of 2022, the PW127XT engine series is the new standard in global regional turboprop aviation. It delivers 3% greater fuel efficiency on top of Pratt & Whitney Canada's PW100 turboprop engine family, which already provides 40% greater fuel efficiency and related emissions compared to regional jets on the typical missions they fly. This was a highly efficient development, certification, and entry-into-service process achieved in close collaboration with ATR. We offer our congratulations to both Air Corsica and ATR on this significant milestone," said Irene Makris, vice president, Customer Service, Pratt & Whitney Canada. This FMP™ agreement is indicative of our long-standing commitment to service excellence through an engine-maintenance solution that will provide Air Corsica 15 years of cost protection for their specific business and investment, so they can focus on serving their customers."

Blade Air Mobility and BETA Technologies Mark the First Piloted EVA Test in New York

AIR TRANSPORT | February 15, 2023

On February 14, 2023, Blade Air Mobility, Inc., an air mobility platform powered by technology, and BETA Technologies EVA developer and an electric aerospace company, announced the successful completion of BETA's ALIA-250 EVA test flight in White Plains, New York, at the Westchester County Airport. This flight is essential in the companies' ongoing collaboration to provide commuters and commercial customers with safe, quiet, and environmentally friendly air transportation in the greater New York City area. An all-electric propulsion system aircraft ALOA-250 is made for urban use with vertical takeoff and landing capability and noise levels that are only 1/10th as loud as those of regular helicopters. The aircraft can carry up to six people and has a sleek, modern design with several safety and comfort features. To demonstrate the significant reduction in noise during the test flight, the ALIA-250 followed a conventional helicopter for a portion of the journey, then separated for a second pass over the airport. In April 2021, Blade and BETA signed a deal allowing Blade's network of operators to buy up to 20 of BETA's first ALIA-250 aircraft with passenger configuration. Blade plans to use its first fleet of aircraft on routes within its US-based network of dedicated terminals. Additionally, BETA has agreed to provide and install charging infrastructure at strategic locations. BETA has demonstrated a strong performance with its two full-scale prototype aircraft by accomplishing significant milestones over the past three years toward certification and commercialization. Testing pilots from the United States Air Force and Army flew the ALIA-250 in full-pattern evaluations in March and July of 2022, respectively, making these flights the first manned qualitative evaluations of electric vertical aircraft in the industry. About Blade Air Mobility Founded in 2014, Blade Air Mobility is a technology-powered, global platform committed to providing cost-effective air transportation alternatives to routes frequently used by millions of people every day, including those in the United States, Europe, Canada, and India. The Company's passenger routes are primarily serviced by helicopters and amphibious aircraft, and it is one of the most extensive air medical transporters of human organs for transplant. Its asset-light business model, coupled with its exclusive passenger terminal infrastructure, is intended to facilitate an easy transition to Electric Vertical Aircraft ("EVA" or "eVTOL"), enabling emission-free, low-cost air mobility for the public. About BETA Technologies An electric aerospace company, BETA Technologies, is creating a new standard for transporting people and goods, making it safer, quieter, greener, and more efficient. To support a variety of EVs, it is constructing an electric transportation system consisting of net-zero, all-electric plane and a cross-country, multimodal charging infrastructure. The Company was founded in 2012, and its headquarters is in South Burlington, Vermont. The BETA platform and products are remarkably straightforward. A focus on safety and a pragmatic approach to certification motivate elegant redundancy, appropriate implementation diversity, and precise control.
