Businesswire | May 08, 2023

Sidus Space, Inc., a Space and Defense-as-a-Service satellite company focused on mission-critical hardware manufacturing; multi-disciplinary engineering services; satellite design, production, launch planning, mission operations; and in-orbit support has announced the successful completion of a groundbreaking external flight test platform mission. In November of 2019, twelve 3D-printed ceramic samples were sent to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Sidus Space External Flight Test Platform (EFTP) in support of a study performed by Alfred University. The 3D-printed ceramic samples were exposed to space weather and radiation environment for approximately 260 days on Sidus’ EFTP. Upon return, the samples were evaluated for radiation damage and structural integrity by examining their mechanical properties after having experienced thermal cycling during flight and mechanical vibrations during launching and landing. "We are pleased to be able to use EFTP to support valuable research to inform future spacecraft design as our years of spaceflight heritage have done so to this point,” said Carol Craig, Founder and CEO of Sidus Space. Archer Rolls Out First Midnight Aircraft; Prepares for Flight Test

Businesswire | May 12, 2023

Archer Aviation Inc., a leader in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, today announced it has now completed the final assembly of its first Midnight aircraft. With final assembly and initial testing complete, last week the aircraft was shipped from Archer’s Palo Alto facility to its flight test facility in Salinas, California and reassembled. Archer will now take this aircraft through a series of ground tests leading up to its planned first flight this summer. The Midnight aircraft has recently garnered significant attention from the U.S. Department of Defense given its payload capabilities. This Midnight aircraft will enable Archer to perform critical “company testing” to accelerate and reduce risk on its certification program with the Federal Aviation Administration (“FAA”) in advance of “for credit” certification testing that the company plans to begin early next year with piloted Midnight aircraft. Our strategy with this aircraft is to allow Archer to fly many of the same test points that will be needed during piloted “for credit” flight testing in order to further validate the aircraft before the FAA witnesses and participates in the testing - a customary practice in many aircraft certification programs. Component manufacturing is already underway for Archer’s conforming Midnight aircraft. Archer is targeting the completion of final assembly of its initial conforming Midnight aircraft in Q4 2023 and to begin piloted flight test operations in early 2024. “Today we announced our exciting progress that the final assembly of our first Midnight aircraft is now complete and it is preparing for its flight test program,” said Adam Goldstein, Archer’s Founder and CEO. “This aircraft will accelerate and reduce risk on our certification program paving the way for our team to focus on building and conducting piloted operations with conforming aircraft to support the goal of entering into service in 2025.” Archer’s industry-leading team, alongside its key strategic partners, Stellantis and United Airlines, continues to advance its aircraft development and commercial operations with impressive speed and efficiency. The company has also established a significant lead over industry peers on the manufacturing and commercial operations fronts with the build out of its high-volume manufacturing facility in Covington, Georgia underway and announced key strategic electric air taxi routes in New York and Chicago. With a range of up to 100 miles, Archer’s Midnight aircraft is designed to perform rapid back-to-back flights with minimal charge time in between. Archer’s goal is to transform inter-city travel, replacing 60-90 minute commutes by car that can take over an hour in traffic with ~10-20 minute electric air taxi flights that are safe, sustainable, low noise and cost competitive with ground transportation. About Archer Archer is designing and developing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft for use in urban air mobility networks. Archer’s mission is to unlock the skies, freeing everyone to reimagine how they move and spend time. Archer's team is based in Santa Clara, CA.

Volatus Aerospace Receives Canada-Wide Approval to Operate Heavy Spray Drones for Precision Agriculture

Accesswire | May 31, 2023

Volatus Aerospace Corp. announces it has received a Transport Canada special authority to operate heavy crop spraying drones weighing over 25 kg anywhere in Canada. This special authority enables pilots who are trained through Volatus Aerospace's training program, operating in compliance with Transport Canada's conditions outlined in the approval, to operate throughout Canada. "The current advanced drone regulations in Canada restrict the flight of a remotely piloted aircraft weighing over 25 kg within national airspace, this approval permits Volatus Aerospace to operate a heavy crop spraying drone, which has a maximum takeoff weight of 101 kg," explained Reno Matthews, Director of Regulatory Compliance for Volatus Aerospace. "This unlocks our ability to offer compliant drone crop spraying services across Canada for our precision agriculture clients." Because of its ability to surgically target plants and provide unparalleled spray control, drone crop spraying has been increasingly adopted world-wide as a cost-efficient and greener method for maintaining crops. "Using traditional methods, like crop dusting aircraft, is not only costly but imprecise as healthy plants are treated with unnecessary chemicals alongside diseased ones. Drones use less product and can focus only on the plants that need treatment, making it a more efficient, safer, and cost-effective way to maintain crops," added John Johnstone, Sales Director for Agriculture at Volatus Aerospace. "Consumers want less chemicals on their products and it is better for the environment, it is the future of agriculture." The dispersal of some chemicals is pending Health Canada approval; however, non-pesticide type treatments are largely unrestricted today. Moreover, big Ag companies, such as Bayer, are taking steps to help farmers benefit from these new technologies. According to FACT.MR, theglobal drone spraying services market is expected to reach a valuation of $213.7 million USD in 2023 and is predicted to accelerate at a combined annual growth rate of 24.7% to top market size of $ 1,942.9 million USD by 2023. In Canada, primary farming consists of more than 189,000 farms covering 62.2 million hectares. About Volatus Aerospace: Volatus Aerospace Corp. is a leading provider of integrated drone solutions throughout North America and growing into Latin America and globally. Volatus serves civil, public safety, and defense markets with imaging and inspection, security and surveillance, equipment sales and support, training, as well as R&D, design, and manufacturing. Through our subsidiary, Volatus Aviation, we are introducing green and innovative drone solutions to supplement and replace traditional aircraft and helicopters for long-linear inspections such as pipeline, energy, rail, and cargo services. Volatus is committed to carbon neutrality; the fostering of a safe, equitable and inclusive workplace; and responsible governance.
