Nok Air signs two strategic agreements with Sabre to power growth and support the Thai carrier's far-reaching new business model

Thai airline Nok Air today announced strategic new long-term agreements with both Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR) a leading software and technology provider that powers the global travel industry, and its subsidiary company, Radixx, to support the evolution of the carrier's new business strategy.

Nok Air has selected an extensive suite of products from Sabre and Radixx to expand distribution and revenue generation opportunities. The agreements support the carrier's repositioning to serve its growing customer base of premium travellers and value-based customer segments. The Sabre and Radixx products will power future business model evolution as Nok Air expands its international operation, develops new airline partnerships and explore further technical capabilities and innovations beyond today.

Radixx will provide a fully integrated passenger service system for Nok Air that spans reservations, inventory, pricing, e-commerce, agency distribution, departure control, load control, loyalty and other related capabilities. In parallel, under a new Sabre distribution deal, Nok Air will distribute its airline content across Sabre's global travel marketplace, opening the door to new international markets and growing its Thailand home market on the Sabre Global Distribution System (GDS).

The carrier, which operates out of Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport, will utilize the following Sabre and Radixx products as Thailand re-opens to vaccinated international travellers:

Radixx Res – Radixx's core passenger system will enable Nok Air to manage all passenger operations and sales channels in order to expand distribution channels and partnerships.

Radixx Go and Radixx Go Touch – new digital capabilities to evolve Nok Air's check-in operation at airports, enhance customer service and enable additional ancillary revenue-generation opportunities across airport touchpoints. Radixx Go Touch enables airline employees to transact full airport departure control capabilities from a mobile device, allowing some flexibility from the constraints of physical airport desks and counters.

Radixx ezyCommerce – an integrated e-commerce and mobile solution to power Nok Air's business-to-consumer for passengers and business-to-business channels for travel agents and corporates.

Radixx Loyalty – new capabilities will enable Nok Air to strengthen the offering of its Nok Air Fan Club, including enhanced online servicing, automation and redemption options for members. 

Radixx Insight – valuable business data and analytics to enable better decision-making, while powering the airline's internal back-office systems.

Sabre's Global Distribution System – to enable expansion into new global markets, ensuring its fares have the widest possible distribution.

Nexteon Technologies Completes First Commercial Aviation Cyberattack Detection Flight Test

Nexteon Technologies, Inc., a leader in advanced aviation technologies, announced today that it has completed the first in-flight test simulating a cyberattack on an Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B)-equipped aircraft. During the 30-minute flight, Nexteon’s SecureTrack™ technology was able to successfully detect and characterize the intrusion and generate security alerts. The test was conducted on July 26 in the Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) airspace by a team that included Nexteon’s industry partners SeRo Systems, The Innovation Laboratory and DragoonITCN. The flight test team worked in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under its Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Nexteon. While in flight, the aircraft used the FAA’s patented Virtual Target Generator (VTG) test tool (U.S. Patent No. 8,604,965) to intentionally create and transmit a series of inaccurate position reports in the aircraft’s ADS-B Out signal. The SeRo advanced surveillance technology detected the spoofed signal and displayed alerts to the ground analysis team for the entire duration of the simulated attack. “This has been an incredible success for Nexteon and a validation of the technology,” said Rob Kaimowitz, Chief Executive Officer of Nexteon Technologies. “We have made great progress, and reaching this milestone was a collaborative effort that would not have been possible without our government and industry partners.” “The SeRo team is excited to participate in this groundbreaking test,” added Dr. Matthias Schäfer, Managing Director of SeRo Systems. “This achievement is the culmination of a decade of research and development, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to showcase SecureTrack’s capabilities.” “We are all proud of this accomplishment, and I would like to thank the flight test team and all of our employees for their dedication and commitment to Nexteon’s vision. Archer Assembles Best-in-Class Flight Control and Software Team as it Propels Towards First Flight

Archer Aviation Inc., a leading developer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has constructed a best-in-class Flight Control and Software team as the company ramps up to its first flight later this year recently appointing Sergio Ferreira to lead the company’s fly-by-wire flight control system development. Ferreira brings two decades of experience developing, integrating, validating, verifying and certifying fly-by-wire flight control systems. He joins Archer after nearly 10 years with Gulfstream Aerospace, where he most recently was the Flight Control Systems Lead for Advanced Aircraft Systems. Previously he was Gulfstream's Flight Control Systems lead for the Gulfstream G400, G500 and G600 fly-by-wire flight control systems, where he was responsible for the development, integration, validation and certification of the flight control computers for that aircraft family. Ferreira’s decades of aviation experience will strengthen the Flight Control and Software team as Archer moves closer to first flight. “This is an exciting time for Archer and the broader aviation industry. Rounding out the Flight Control and Software team is Perrine Mathieu, Flight Controls and Avionics Program Lead. She will work alongside Bardon, Ferreira and the broader team and will be accountable for the development and implementation of the fly-by-wire flight control system of Archer’s production aircraft. She brings experience with aviation flight control and vehicle management systems, most recently with Bell, where she was responsible for vehicle management systems. At Bell, Mathieu led the development and implementation of software development, flight controls, avionics, electrical systems and handling qualities across several platforms. Prior to her time at Bell, Mathieu worked as a design engineer for Triumph Aerostructures, in the Vought Aircraft Division. FAA Approves Nextant Aerospace Challenger 604 Fusion Software Version 2 Upgrade

Nextant Aerospace today announced that it has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval of an upgraded software Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Challenger 604 aircraft with Pro Line Fusion Avionics. The long-awaited software upgrade provides added avionics capabilities to enhance safety and awareness while also helping pilots and operators save time. Nextant is making the upgrade available at no charge for current Challenger 604 Pro Line Fusion operators. “The FAA approval of the upgraded software STC for Challenger 604 aircraft will improve flight crew safety and awareness, and is consistent with our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers,” said Nextant Aerospace Director of Engineering and Certification Kevin Himelright. “We look forward to partnering with our customers, Collins Aerospace and the FAA to ensure these aircraft are provided suitable paths to operate well into the future and to continue to meet the industry’s growing safety and operational mandate challenges.” This software addresses the fact that the Pro Line Fusion software as originally certified did not include features such as Flight Management System (FMS)-predicted performance and calculated thrust and V-speeds, which already existed on the Challenger 604 Pro Line IV aircraft. Operators selecting the initial Pro Line Fusion installation were required to revert to manually calculating thrust, V-speeds and performance numbers, which consumes the pilots’ time and attention. The software upgrade provides the Challenger 604 with FMS-calculated thrust and V-speed functionality as well as FMS-predicted performance, similar to the Precision Plus mode that existed on the earlier Pro Line IV avionics. The software update also includes a new FMS Vertical Situation Display (VSD) for enhanced situational awareness, European Aeronautical Telecommunication Network Baseline 1 (ATN B1) Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) functionality to meet European and overseas mandates, and RNP AR .3 approach functionality which further improves the aircraft’s safety and operational capabilities. The Nextant STC software upgrade was certified by the FAA. Validations by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Transport Canada and other non-US agencies are in progress, which will expand the STC to non-US operators. Nextant certification engineers have been working with both Collins Aerospace and the FAA during the past two years to test and certify this Fusion software upgrade. Nextant also is executing an FAA Flight Standardization Board (FSB) Operational Evaluation for training requirements to support Part 135 operators upgrading to the Fusion Version 2 software. The software upgrade also remains compatible with existing Fusion Integrated AutoThrottle systems, since Nextant received FAA approval for a new Airplane Flight Manual Supplement applicable to aircraft specifically with the Fusion Integrated AutoThrottles with the upgraded Fusion software. “This is a perfect solution for all Challenger 604 owners and operators. Existing Challenger 604 Fusion operators have been awaiting this upgrade for years and can now upgrade their Fusion software free of charge,” said Himelright. “Challenger 604 operators still using Pro Line IV Avionics now have a suitable upgrade path to address issues of obsolescence in their flight deck without compromising the functionality of their aircraft.
