Digital security specialist Gemalto has partnered with an airline to launch a trial of biometric boarding technology in Terminal 4 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in the US. Known as Gemalto’s Live Face Identification System (LFIS), the trial will check whether the passengers’ needs are met through facial recognition against a traditional boarding pass. It will also assess whether the new technology complies with the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements. Gemalto government programmes senior vice-president Neville Pattinson said: “Being able to use your face instead of your boarding pass will not only enhance security but allow passengers to board more easily and quickly.
