MEDC aims for $1 million in new business during aerospace summit in Detroit

April 10, 2019 / KURT NAGL

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. hopes to see $1 million of new business contracts born from its aerospace summit pairing global purchasers with local suppliers. The Pure Michigan Aerospace Summit takes place 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday at Ford Field. Buying teams from 24 purchasers, including Boeing and Lockheed Martin, have committed to the matchmaking event, along with 150 suppliers, said Trevor Pawl, group vice president of mobility, supply chain and trade at the MEDC. The event, hosted by the MEDC's Pure Michigan Business Connect since 2014, showcases Michigan as a major player in the aerospace industry, given the state's automotive manufacturing infrastructure and supply chain savvy. Last year's event drew a similar number of buyers and purchasers and resulted in around $500,000 in new contracts. The summit costs about $50,000 to produce.
