The incidence of drunk and disruptive passengers on flights is increasing, having risen significantly since 2013.1 This puts the safety and welfare of passengers and cabin crews at risk, including children. Though perpetrated by a minority of passengers, the consequences of disruptive behaviour are far-reaching: 60% of adults in Great Britain who have travelled by air have encountered drunken passengers and 51% believe there is a serious problem with excessive alcohol consumption during air travel.

Aircraft lease securitisation

Airfinance Journal

Securitisation can be viewed as a financing tool or a mechanism for selling aircraft lease portfolios. Since the 1990s aircraft asset-backed securitisation has become a common financial practice. While securitisation has thrived in the US and Europe, securitisation market for Asian issuers has been underdeveloped until the first Asian aircraft securitisation took place in 2015.

Aviation Finance - Tax Webinar

We are delighted to invite you to attend our Aviation Finance Tax Webinar, taking place on Thursday 1 October from 9am – 9.45am. This is the first in a series of 3 webinars we will be running in the period October - December this year focusing on tax law changes and new mandatory reporting obligations. This first session will focus on the following in the context of aviation finance: ATAD hybrid mismatch rules; Changes to section 110 including amendments to the definition of specified person. Both items above were included in the Finance Act 2019 and are currently in force. We will discuss how these issues will impact the 31 December 2020 financial reporting cycle. They are important changes in Irish tax law and warrant attention for both new and existing structures. Following this, we will have 2 more webinars covering updated Transfer Pricing rules, related debt capacity issues and also EU Mandatory Reporting.

Sustainability in Aviation (Part 1) – Meeting Current Environmental Challenges

Aviation industry has been in the spotlight for its adverse impact on the environment, despite huge strides being made to reduce the environmental impact of aircraft and engines. Globally, aviation produced 2.4% of total carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in 2018. While this may seem like a relatively small amount, consider that if aviation was a country, it would rank 6th in the world between Japan and Germany in terms of total CO2 emissions. Non-CO2 effects, such as warming induced by aircraft contrails and other pollutants, bring aviation’s combined total contribution to global warming to approximately 5%. The Coronavirus Pandemic has shone a bigger spotlight on the sector to be more ‘green’, with much government financial support linked to environmental change. Decarbonizing aviation will take longer than other industries — new planes sold today will likely still be in operation in 2050 — that 5% of global emissions attributed to aviation is expected to grow to roughly 25% by 2050. How do we deliver a more sustainable aviation industry: – What are technical capabilities for environmental challenges, how do we decrease emissions and what is the CO2 limitation challenge? – How can Fuel Efficiency IT systems and Innovations for Decarbonising contrails contribute towards sustainable aviation? – What is the impact of the technology environment (at different stages of flight eg. TBO/4D Trajectory)? Join us for this exciting webinar that will discuss these challenges for flight operations in the aerospace sector.
