Complexity is introduced and explored, with discussion about how it can be managed by dealing with scale, interdependencies and interconnectedness in the system lifecycle. Applying a systems approach provides insight into the unexpected ways a system will behave due to complexity, as a means to combat the common overbudget and behind schedule program.

Air freight is the fastest growing mode in goods movement. Worldwide, aviation accounts for about two percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, with emissions expected to grow at about three to four percent per year. Under the leadership of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the air carrier industry has adopted measures intended reduce aircraft emissions to 2005 levels by 2050.

As the Arctic region continues to warm, it is becoming more congested and contested. Space domain awareness and space-based communications networks are playing an increased role in regional cooperation.

Emergency operations centers (EOCs) are involved in command and control, policymaking, coordination, and overall direction of responding forces in an emergency situation. While commercial airports typically have a space they refer to as the EOC, some EOCs are repurposed conference rooms that may not be adequate for handling all emergency operations. This webinar provided information to guide airports through the decision-making process involved when considering changes to their EOC. These changes may include upgrading an existing EOC, evaluating a move to an alternative existing space, or building an entirely new EOC.
