AIR Partners with FlyOnE To Accelerate Personal eVTOL Aviation Adoption In Australia

Today AIR, creator of eVTOLs for the consumer market, announced its partnership with Australia's FlyOnE, a pioneer of goods and services in the emerging green transport market and a leading supplier of electric aircraft. The partnership also marks the launch of the AIR Brand Ambassador (ABA) program, enabling strategic partners around the world the opportunity to share the freedom of personal flight with their communities.

FlyOnE will serve as AIR's local service and maintenance partner and will facilitate the delivery of 25 of the first AIR ONE vehicles to customers in 2025. As the first official AIR Brand Ambassador, FlyOnE will play a significant role in laying the groundwork enabling AIR's vision, the mass adoption of personal air vehicles, to come to life in Australia, where Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) regulation is already in motion.

In contrast with the Urban Air Mobility industry developing air taxis for commercial use, AIR's inaugural vehicle, AIR ONE, allows individual consumers to embrace the freedom of flight in their daily travels. The vehicle is a sporty, all-electric two-seater eVTOL offering a range of 110 miles (177 km) on a single charge at speeds up to 155 miles per hour (250 km). The AIR ONE allows owners to take off and land on any flat surface.

Atlas Air Worldwide Purchases Four Boeing 777 Freighters

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Atlas Air Worldwide today announced an order for four 777 Freighters. The order, placed in December, rounds out a record-setting 2021 for Boeing's freighter family including new-production and converted models. Boeing has forecast that the global freighter fleet will grow by 70% in the next 20 years, with freight carriers such as Atlas Air supporting a rapidly expanding global e-commerce business and evolving supply chains. With a range of 4,970 nmi (9,200km), the 777 Freighter can carry a maximum revenue payload of 102 tonnes (224,900 lb), while reducing fuel use and CO2 emissions compared to prior airplanes. This capability and exceptional efficiency translate into significant savings for cargo operators, with fewer stops and associated landing fees. The company will announce full-year 2021 orders and deliveries on January 11. Atlas Air currently has 14 777s and is the world's largest operator of 747 Freighters, with 49 in its fleet. These two models, in particular, are designed to partner seamlessly, enabling operators to transfer tall and outsized cargo loads easily between the two on 3-meter (10-foot) tall pallets. The cargo and passenger carrier also operates a fleet of 767 and 737 airplanes. Elbit Systems UK JV introduces sustainable aviation pathfinder for Ministry of Defence

Elbit Systems UK and KBR Inc's joint venture, Affinity Flying Training Services Ltd (Affinity), has embarked on a series of battery-powered flight tests for the UK Ministry of Defence to assess the feasibility of environmentally friendly alternatives to current military aircraft. The concept of trialling zero emissions aircraft, and the subsequent pathfinder, was brought to the Ministry of Defence by Elbit Systems UK through its joint venture with KBR Inc, Affinity. The introduction of this pathfinder demonstrates the company's commitment to providing innovative solutions for the UK Armed Forces and addressing the needs of the future. In line with the Ministry of Defence's 'green' transformation, the flights aim to help the Royal Air Force (RAF) assess the technology of electric aircraft, determine its effectiveness as an impactful pilot training capability and realise the net-zero ambitions of the service's ASTRA initiative. The flights used a fully certified two-seater pilot training aircraft, the Velis Electro. Flight and safety assurances were developed during the summer of 2021, which was organised and delivered by the team from Elbit Systems UK, through Affinity, in partnership with the Civil Aviation Authority. The pathfinder programme was split into three phases. As part of Phase 1 in December 2021, test flights took off from Damyn's Hall, Essex, and continued into January 2022. Phase 2 commenced in March 2022, and saw the aircraft join Affinity's existing fleet at RAF Cranwell, where up to twenty additional pilots will fly the eco-friendly aircraft. Finally, Phase 3 of the flight trials will welcome senior government officials and observers. "We are delighted to be leading this exciting initiative with the Ministry of Defence. Flight Safety Foundation Urges Collaboration on Safe Implementation of 5G

Flight Safety Foundation strongly encourages the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to work together to develop a plan that enables the safe and efficient implementation of 5G mobile communications services in the C-Band. It is critical to fully understand and mitigate potential 5G signal interference with radio altimeters that are integral to aircraft safety systems. Activation of these services currently is scheduled for Jan. 5. The FAA's recent airworthiness directives (ADs) would restrict the use of approach and landing procedures during low visibility conditions. Other safety-critical features such as aircraft and obstacle collision avoidance systems also depend on reliable radio altimeter performance. The Foundation is concerned about the possible unintended consequences of not having full safety enhancement system capabilities available to pilots and about the considerable efforts to develop and communicate the mitigations to all segments of the aviation sector. These restrictions will adversely impact different aviation operations, including helicopter emergency medical services. "Restricting the use of safety-critical systems when in the vicinity of 5G interference, as outlined in recent FAA ADs, is not a viable long-term solution, We should always be working to improve the situational awareness of flight crews, not restricting it." -Capt. The Foundation believes that 5G and aviation can safely co-exist, but it is going to take a collaborative approach on the part of FAA and FCC, and stakeholders in the aviation and telecommunications industries, to resolve outstanding issues.
