Altair Selected by Airbus Commercial Streamlines ZEROe

On January 31, 2023, Altair, one of the global leaders in computational science and AI, announced that Airbus Commercial had chosen Altair SimSolid, the revolutionary simulation technology that functions structural analyses on fully featured CAD assemblies within minutes in the ZEROe global initiative. The initiative aims to create the first zero-emission commercial aircraft in the world.

Altair SimSolid will help save the time, money, and hassle of Aibus' design and engineering teams. Altair's simulation technology SimSolid was selected as it will help reduce the elementary part analysis delivery times from days to minutes and sometimes cut the delivery time for complex assemblies from months to less than a week. In addition, the operations and interface of Altair SimSolid are intuitive and easy to implement, allowing users to work without the need to clean geometry or pre-prepare the model. It also allows Aibus's engineering and design teams to explore more design interactions quickly to expedite project timelines further and deliver fast, sustainable innovations.

The goal of the ZEROe project is to create the world's first commercial airline fleet powered by hydrogen propulsion. In addition, the project will further shape the development of future zero-emission aircraft enabling Airbus to explore a variety of configurations of hydrogen technologies. Airbus is working towards a hydrogen-combustion propulsion system with mature technology readiness by 2025.

Christophe Brand, head of airframe methods and tools at Airbus Commercial, said, "By using Altair SimSolid, our teams can explore more design possibilities in a simple, easy-to-implement environment." He also stated, "By not requiring our teams to clean geometries beforehand, Altair SimSolid helps us significantly reduce delivery times and build better products. With it, we look forward to building the future of zero-emission aircraft technology."
