Sarcos Technology and Robotics Corporation, a manufacturer of advanced robotic systems in collaboration with Changi Airport Group (CAG), recently demonstrated a jointly developed prototype of an outdoor-based autonomous baggage loading system.
The outdoor-based baggage loading system will automate the loading and unloading of loose passenger bags from narrow-bodied aircraft. Singapore’s Changi-Airport witnessed the inaugural field demonstrations of this system in September 2022. The ground handling crew in tandem with robotics demonstrated that the system would reduce the risk of on-the-job injuries from baggage handling and optimize the labor force.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) is contributing to the development and testing of the baggage loading system through its Aviation Development Fund (ADF). The ADF supports initiatives that use innovative solutions to increase productivity in Singapore’s aviation sector.
“Deploying robotics to improve workplace safety is core to our mission at Sarcos and this system has the potential to transform airports across the globe by making them safer and reducing passenger delays due to weather-related downtime. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with CAG to augment the workforce of the tarmac with robotics.”
