Dominican Republic’s New Flagship Airline Arajet Takes Off
Arajet, the Dominican Republic's new low-fare airline, officially launched operations in the Caribbean skies, leading the rebirth of the Dominican aviation with a powerful connecting hub in Santo Domingo. Arajet will build a robust route network of 22 destinations in 12 countries in the upcoming months, proudly carrying the Dominican flag, and providing a customer-oriented service across the continent.After two days of successful operations on September 15th and 16th with flights to Barranquilla and Cali in Colombia and to Aruba, Arajet marked its first official flight to San Salvador in El Salvador, in an event hosted by Mr. Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic, and Mrs. Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism of El Salvador. We celebrate the launch of Arajet as our newest national carrier. Our government will continue supporting Arajet and the overall aeronautical industry to assure its competitiveness and create an air hub that promotes tourism, trade and cultural exchange, and provides an opportunity for all Dominicans abroad to visit their country at affordable prices,” said President Abinader.

Arajet has already received 5 of 8 direct leases of new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, and has a direct order for 20 new Boeing 737 MAX. Yamaha Motor and ShinMaywa Conduct Early-Stage Test Flight of Small Aircraft

(Headquarters: Takarazuka, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan; President and CEO: Tatsuyuki Isogawa) conducted an early-stage test flight of a prototype small aircraft at Fujikawa Gliding Field in Shizuoka Prefecture on September 21 This flight was run as part of the joint research project for small aircraft begun by both companies last year. The aircraft tested was an R&D aircraft owned by ShinMaywa, the XU-L (Experimental Utility aircraft – Large type), which was equipped with an existing 499cc engine manufactured by Yamaha Motor. Following the success of this early-stage test flight, both companies plan to continue this joint research endeavor.

AZORES AIRLINES, GALP, NESTE AND CARLYLE AVIATION TAKE OFF FOR SATA GROUP'S FIRST FLIGHT WITH SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL

October 24th will go down in Azores Airlines' history as the beginning of a new era, the date of its first-ever flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This milestone is even more significant considering that a few days ago, the SATA Group joined the European Union's Zero Emissions Aviation Alliance, an initiative aimed precisely at decarbonizing the sector by 2050. Azores Airlines' first commercial flight fueled with SAF connected Lisbon and Ponta Delgada, in an Airbus A320 named UNIQUE with registration CS-TKK. The aircraft took off from Lisbon airport at 19H25M local time and landed at Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, at 21H30M local time. The fuel used on this route incorporated 39% renewable origin material known as HEFA (Hydro processed Esters and Fatty Acids), representing a 35% reduction in total CO2 emissions. The preparation and monitoring of this first commercial flight using sustainable aviation fuel involved the energy partners Galp and NESTE, two leading innovators in biofuels and recyclable fuels, and Carlyle Aviation Partners, a commercial aviation investment platform and lessor of the CS-TKK UNIQUE aircraft operated by Azores Airlines. Together with Azores Airlines' technical teams, the partners ensured the feasibility of this operation. SAF offers similar performance to traditional jet fuel and can be used in the same engines as fossil fuel but with a significantly lower carbon footprint. NESTE's SAF is produced from 100% sustainably sourced renewable waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. Positioning itself as a strategic SAF supplier, Galp plans to produce 240.000 tons/year of SAF as part of the transformation of its Sines industrial site into a Green Energy Park. H3 Dynamics Completes World’s First Flight With Proprietary Distributed Hydrogen-Electric Nacelle Technology

The future of hydrogen aviation powered by H3 Dynamics’ distributed hydrogen propulsion nacelles has taken flight for the very first time in France. Following the announcement of its hydrogen aviation concept back in 2018, H3 Dynamics managed to become a topic at an Oval Office press conference on the very next day, and started what is now a global hydrogen aviation movement. In November 2021, H3 Dynamics completed its first working hydrogen propulsion nacelle prototype. In July 2022, the first distributed pod system took to the skies on a scaled-down aircraft at “Hub Drones - Systematic” airfield near Paris. The hydrogen flight received clearance from the French civil air authorities (DGAC). H3 Dynamics’ self-contained nacelle approach addresses technical, safety and cost challenges hydrogen aircraft developers could face at some point in the future. It achieves this by placing hydrogen and smaller fuel cells across a series of collaborative propulsion nacelles under the wings. Electra Flies Solar-Electric Hybrid Research Aircraft

Electra.aero, Inc , a next-gen aerospace company with a mission to help decarbonize aviation and open new air transportation markets, announced today that it has completed the first flight of a solar-battery hybrid electric research aircraft. This 90-foot wingspan unmanned aircraft system (UAS) made its first flight from Manassas Regional Airport, Virginia on September 9, 2022, and is the first airplane to emerge from Electra's new development facility there.The new plane, named Dawn One, is part of the Stratospheric Airborne Climate Observatory System (SACOS) program. SACOS is being developed under the leadership of Professor James G. Anderson at Harvard University. The project is supported by a contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and by the Weld Foundation for Scientific and Environmental Development. "SACOS is designed to innovatively address a broad range of scientific missions and serve as a climate observing system that will herald a new era in the quantitative dissection of the physics, chemistry, and biology controlling critical climate systems. Following the lead of the new National Academy of Sciences report Global Change Research Needs and Opportunities for 2022-2031, SACOS promises to dramatically expand our national climate research capabilities," Professor Anderson.Harvard University The high-spatial resolution observations from SACOS will provide, for the first time, quantitative forecasts of risk associated with rapidly expanding wildfires, the increasing rate of sea level rise, the intensification of severe storms, and global shifts in arid regions that trigger water shortages. Moreover, these quantitative forecasts of risk will, in turn, establish the essential intellectual links directly coupling irreversible changes in the climate structure to economics, public policy, and associated societal instability, Professor Anderson explained. The Dawn One project originated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) led by Professors John Hansman and Mark Drela. Detailed design, construction, and testing of the aircraft were led by Electra. This solar-battery aircraft is part of Electra's ongoing development of reduced and zero-carbon aircraft propulsion technologies, which also include turbine-electric and hydrogen fuel cell-based hybrid systems. The SACOS flight is part of the public celebration of the 2021 Dreyfus Prize in Chemical Sciences, to be presented to Professor Anderson on September 29, 2022 at Harvard.
