India amends ageing aircraft laws

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has amended India's laws governing the age of aircraft that can be imported into the country for commercial use.   Under revised regulations governing pressurized passenger craft, an aircraft must be either, at most, fifteen years of age or have yet to have reached 75% of its designed economic lifespan or 45,000 pressurization cycles, to be eligible. Similarly, an aircraft that is less than eighteen years of age and which has only completed 50% of its specified pressurization cycles, is also eligible. Previously, the law limited all aircraft older than fifteen years of age from being used in the country's civil aviation market.
