J-Space Partners With Virgin Orbit to Bring Sovereign Air-Launch Capability to South Korea

Virgin Orbit , a leading launch provider, announced today that it has signed an agreement with South Korean investment group J-Space. The agreement will allow the companies to assess candidate spaceport launch sites in South Korea, with the goal of providing satellite launch services from there using Virgin Orbit’s LauncherOne System. The cooperative effort is designed to act as a catalyst to the burgeoning Korean small satellite and space solutions market, stimulate local economic growth, and provide the South Korean government with a flexible and responsive launch capability in support of a wide range of mission applications. In pursuing its mission to transform the space industry in South Korea, J-Space looks to leverage Virgin Orbit’s unique mobile launch system and its capability to offer nations a turnkey small satellite launch capability that can quickly become fully operational, thereby satisfying commercial, civil government, and defense requirements. Drawing on local expertise and funding by J-Space and on launch and mission expertise from Virgin Orbit, the partnership will focus its initial efforts on linking with local South Korean high-tech industries and formulating end-to-end mission solutions that will benefit the nation and broader region. The partners aim to develop a roadmap that will result in launch site identification and operations, delineate specific investor and business objectives, and identify key partners in the region. The roadmap will seek to lay out the steps required to enable the first flights of LauncherOne to occur from South Korea in as little as 12 -18 months.

ZeroAvia Acquires Leading Fuel Cell Stack Innovator HyPoint

ZeroAvia, the leader in developing zero-emission solutions for commercial aviation, today announced that it has acquired in full the leading fuel cell stack innovator HyPoint. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.The acquisition adds HyPoint's advanced high-temperature fuel cell technology - a promising avenue for increasing power output and energy density of aviation fuel cell powertrains - to ZeroAvia's already leading expertise in developing the full powertrain to enable hydrogen-electric flight. All 40 HyPoint team members will be integrated into ZeroAvia, working across the R&D locations in Kemble, Gloucestershire and HyPoint's location in Sandwich, Kent. HyPoint's CEO Alex Ivanenko joins ZeroAvia as GM for VTOL and New Segments, to develop ZeroAvia's rotorcraft business applications, and to explore other applications outside of ZeroAvia's core focus on fixed-wing commercial aviation. All of HyPoint's engineering team will join ZeroAvia's Hydrogen Power Generation Systems (PGS) division led by Rudolf Coertze, CTO Hydrogen, combining two rare sets of exceptionally talented fuel cell researchers and engineers working in the field today. The two companies have worked closely together on co-developing and testing HTPEM fuel cell technology as part of ZeroAvia's powertrain development over the last couple of years, with HyPoint relocating the bulk of its R&D into the UK in February 2022 to support the partnership. Velontra Contracts with Venus Aerospace to Deliver a Propulsion System Enabling Airflights Around the Globe in One Hour

Cincinnati/Dayton-based Velontra has partnered with Venus Aerospace in Houston, Texas, to develop a revolutionary propulsion system. Velontra's after-burner system will enable Venus' hypersonic aircraft to take off from any airport in the world where it will travel to any destination on Earth in about one hour. "This is an exciting relationship,"Our after-burner system rounds out Venus' quest to use their rocket engine to travel at the hypersonic speed of Mach 9 (nine times the speed of sound) as it travels along the edge of the Earth's atmosphere." Velontra CEO Robert Keane III Keane also says that this contract with Venus Aerospace is a validation of the market need for the Velontra propulsion system that can carry passengers quickly and efficiently around the globe. Their air-breathing propulsion system is up to six times more fuel efficient than any rocket and uses oxygen from the air which creates thousands of pounds of additional payload capacity. Velontra's development process is also quick and more economical than most traditional aerospace and defense contractors. The Venus Aerospace "Stargazer" is designed as an unusually sleek aircraft, proposed to be 100 feet wide by 150 feet long. It is expected to weigh around 150,000 pounds and accommodate up to 12 passengers. It is the brainchild of Venus founders and noted space engineers Sarah "Sassie" Duggleby and her husband, Dr. Andrew Duggleby.
