Sagetech Avionics and Pen Aviation Sign MOU to Integrate Detect and Avoid System

Sagetech Avionics, an aerospace technology firm that provides industry-leading situational awareness solutions for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and Pen Aviation has agreed to integrate Sagetech Avionics' MXS transponders and Detect and Avoid (DAA) systems into the PEN 55V midsize drone and the PEN 1360V heavy cargo drone.

According to the terms of the deal, Sagetech Avionics and Pen Aviation will collaborate to certify the PEN UAV series, which is outfitted with Sagetech's technology, for UAS operation in global airspace.

The project will be divided into five stages: design, development, testing, and validation, followed by a full production of Pen Aviation UAVs. Sagetech and Pen Aviation are collaborating to achieve PEN UAV certification in 2022.

Sagetech's DAA system combines various core technologies into a single low scale, weight, and power (SWaP) DAA approach that can be used on commercial unmanned aircraft as well as urban air mobility (UAM) platforms. Sagetech's DAA system is ACAS-based and includes technologies such as a transponder, an interrogator, an ACAS-based DAA computer, a software kit, and other critical components. It is compatible with a wide range of off-the-shelf low SWaP radars and other traffic sensors.

Sagetech's next-generation MXS miniature transponder integrates Mode S and 1090 MHz ADS-B In/Out for global enforcement with unmanned systems into a single tiny box. This transponder, which has top and bottom monopole antennas, offers complete pattern coverage for maximum visibility and protection.

Pen Aviation is designing medium to large-scale drones in collaboration with its French partner, Cavok-UAS.

The PEN 55V is a completely autonomous VTOL, rotary tactical drone with exceptional performance: high level of safety, quick deployment and low maintenance cost, no runway needed, fantastic versatility, long-endurance (2.5 hours), high range of speed up to 110 km/h, hardly detectable, low level of vibration to improve video quality and payload customization (up to 15kg). This UAV can run in harsh environmental conditions that no other drones can.

The PEN 1360V is a fully autonomous multi-mission VTOL rotary cargo drone intended to transport large payloads over long distances. This model provides exceptional results, including unprecedented payload-range capability (up to 770kg over 675km), a high degree of protection, ease of deployment and low maintenance costs, no runway requirement, great mobility, and long endurance (3.8 hours).
