Sikorsky workers to face unspecified number of layoffs

An unspecified number of Sikorsky Aircraft employees will be laid off by the end of August, a spokesman with the company’s corporate parent, Lockheed Martin, said Wednesday. Chris Williams, a spokesman for Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed Martin said the reduction in the workforce at the Stratford-based helicopter manufacturer is part of an ongoing “thorough analysis of the Sikorsky business.” “This action is necessary if we are to remain competitive the marketplace, secure future business opportunities and keep our infrastructure aligned with customer demands,” Williams said.
