Sine Draco Aviation Technology Ltd Receives AS9100 Rev. D and ISO 9001 Certifications

Sine Draco Aviation Technology today announced it received certification to the AS9100 Rev. D quality management standard at their North American headquarters in Bellevue, WA. The AS9100D approval also includes certification to the ISO9001:2015 standard. Sine Draco's AS9100 certification supports its plans for development, management and execution of large-scale aviation projects, including aircraft design, modification and certification for passenger to freighter conversion and aircraft storage. Sine Draco recently launched development of an A321-200 passenger-to-freighter conversion with FAA approval anticipated in late 2021/early 2022.
These certifications highlight the company's commitment to meeting and exceeding the increasingly stringent industry requirements for aerospace related products. It also assures Sine Draco's manufacturing processes consistently meet or exceed the requirements and expectations of its customers. These standards are strongly supported and adhered to by major aerospace OEMs and by its vendors within the supply chain.

Boeing to Open Japan Research Center and Expand Sustainability Partnerships

Boeing will strengthen its partnership with Japan by opening a new Boeing Research and Technology center. The facility will focus on sustainability and support a newly expanded cooperation agreement with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Boeing and METI have agreed to broaden their 2019 Cooperation Agreement to now include a focus on sustainable aviation fuels electric and hydrogen powertrain technologies, and future flight concepts that will promote zero climate impact aviation. That is in addition to exploring electric and hybrid-electric propulsion, batteries, and composite manufacturing that will enable new forms of urban mobility. "We are excited to open our latest global research and technology center here in Japan. Working with terrific partners like METI, the new center will expand upon Boeing-wide initiatives in sustainable fuels and electrification, and explore the intersection of digitization, automation and high-performance aerospace composites for greater sustainability in our future products and production systems." said Greg Hyslop, Boeing chief engineer and executive vice president of Engineering, Test & Technology The BR&T – Japan Research Center will be located in Nagoya, which is already home to many of Boeing's major industrial partners and suppliers. The facility will further expand Boeing's research and development footprint in the region, which includes centers in Australia, China and Korea. Boeing is fully committed to supporting Japan's SAF industry and has been accepted as the latest member of ACT FOR SKY, a voluntary organization of 16 companies that works to commercialize, promote and expand the use of SAF produced in Japan. It was founded by Boeing airline customers All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL), along with global engineering company JGC Holdings Corporation, and biofuel producer Revo International. Masahiro Aika, representative of ACT FOR SKY, said, "ACT FOR SKY welcomes the participation of Boeing. We look forward to Boeing collaborating with the other members to "ACT" for the commercialization, promotion and expansion of SAF in Japan." In addition to becoming partners in ACT FOR SKY, Boeing has a long history of innovating with ANA and JAL on sustainable aviation, which includes pioneering SAF-powered flights and launching the ground-breaking 787 Dreamliner. Today, they signed agreements to work together to study advanced sustainable technologies, including electric, hybrid, hydrogen and other novel propulsion systems in an endeavor to reduce the carbon footprint of aircraft. Gogo Business Aviation to Launch LEO Global Broadband Service

Gogo Business Aviation announced it will launch the first global broadband service in business aviation to use an electronically steered antenna (ESA) on a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite network. Gogo's exclusive antenna assembly, designed in conjunction with Hughes Network Systems, LLC (Hughes), will be small enough for installation on the fuselage of business aircraft from super light jets and large turboprops to ultralong-range jets, and will operate on OneWeb's high-speed, low-latency broadband global network. To access the network, the new service will require just one Gogo AVANCE LRU inside the aircraft, which means existing AVANCE customers will only have to install the ESA antenna, with a single cable for power in, and a single cable for data out. "This will be a fast and affordable broadband system that will provide best-in-class global performance on the broadest range of aircraft in business aviation, We want to give everyone in business aviation the ability to have an exceptional broadband experience regardless of where they fly, or what size aircraft they fly." Sergio Aguirre, Gogo Business Aviation's president and chief operating officer The OneWeb network will deliver performance comparable to terrestrial broadband services, with game-changing low latency that is significantly less than geostationary satellites (GEOs). A multitude of users will be able to simultaneously perform data-heavy interactive online activities such as conducting simultaneous live video conferences, accessing cloud solutions such as Office365, watching live TV, streaming video applications like TikTok, and much more. "Our agreement with Gogo Business Aviation represents a leap forward for business aviation connectivity," said Ben Griffin, vice president Mobility at OneWeb. "By harnessing the power of our LEO constellation to deliver robust, consistent, and reliable global coverage, OneWeb and Gogo will be able to offer an unmatched experience to business jet operators and passengers worldwide." OneWeb's LEO constellation is fully funded and will consist of 648 satellites, 428 of which have already been launched. "The world has been waiting for a high performance, cost-effective, flat panel antenna solution to realize the global, high-speed, low-latency promise of LEO satellite broadband – and Hughes has delivered," said Reza Rasoulian, vice president, Hughes. "Gogo's selection of the Hughes ESA solution affirms our engineering excellence and unlocks the value of OneWeb's global capacity for high-speed, inflight broadband anywhere on the planet." Unlike GEO solutions, Gogo's LEO service will include one fuselage-mounted unit with an integrated antenna, modem, power supply and RF converter; will only require 28 volts of DC power; will not rely on aircraft-positioning data; and will include an AVANCE router. "We've designed the system to reduce costs by simplifying the installation," Aguirre continued. "We have long delivered affordable, high-quality connectivity, and award-winning customer service to aircraft owners in North America, and now we want to bring those same benefits to all aircraft owners in the rest of the world." For customers with an AVANCE L3 or L5 system in North America, the unique multi-bearer capability of the AVANCE platform will allow Gogo to combine capacity from OneWeb's LEO satellite network with Gogo's ATG network to deliver even higher capacity than LEO alone can provide. The Gogo broadband service for business aviation will be available soon after the OneWeb network is fully launched and commercially available. Stratolaunch Debuts Talon-A Separation Test Vehicle

Stratolaunch is excited to announce the public debut of its structurally complete Talon-A test vehicle, TA-0, in this week's issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology. This first Talon-A vehicle will be used to test and validate Roc's release system and characterize the separation dynamics of the Talon vehicle. In addition to the first view of the vehicle by itself, the article also includes recent photos of the first mating of TA-0 to Roc's pylon located on the center wing. The pylon, which was introduced during Roc's fifth test flight on May 4, will be used to carry and release Talon-A hypersonic vehicles. The hardware is comprised of a mini-wing and adapter that is constructed with aluminum and carbon fiber skins. It weighs approximately 8,000 pounds and occupies 14 feet of Roc's 95-foot center wingspan, allowing for adequate space between the aircraft's dual fuselages for safe vehicle release and launch. The custom structure also features a winch system that will load Talon-A vehicles onto the platform from the ground, expediting launch preparation and reducing the need for ground support. Although this first version of Talon-A will not be powered in flight, its future iterations will be rocket-powered, autonomous, reusable testbeds carrying customizable payloads at speeds above Mach 5. TA-0 will continue functional and integration testing in the coming months, culminating in a captive carry and vehicle flight later this year. After completing TA-0 separation testing, the company will transition to flying its first hypersonic test vehicle, TA-1. The team has also started fabrication of a third vehicle, TA-2, the first fully reusable hypersonic test vehicle. The Talon-A testbed capability ultimately enables routine access to the hypersonic flight environment, which is critical for scientific research, technological development, and component demonstration.
