SkyGrid Launches Autonomous Remote UAV Operations Solution

SkyGrid, a Boeing, SparkCognition company, announced today that it has released a new autonomous remote UAV operations capability to allow flight managers and operators to control and execute flights from remote locations. Using artificial intelligence and a broad array of airspace-related data feeds, SkyGrid is enabling safe remote operations for missions involving single and multiple drones.

Organizations can use SkyGrid to facilitate routine inspections over an area of interest and generate optimal flight paths for multiple flight segments. These optimized segments are then linked automatically to create complete routes. The company's advanced route generation capabilities create the safest route for each drone based on the flight plan, environmental conditions, the vehicle's performance, and the mission criteria with minimum onsite support required for flight operations. With the new remote UAV operations functionality, SkyGrid will now allow remote operators to create and deploy these automated missions to a fleet of geographically disbursed aerial vehicles.

In addition to enabling remote management of drone fleets and creation of missions, SkyGrid Launch also allows video feeds from drones to be consolidated to a remote central location, such as a ground station. Operators can choose to integrate with precision landing and docking stations for full autonomy and access all flight metrics and visualizations on a single dashboard with an easy-to-use interface. For full regulatory compliance, operators and pilots on the ground are kept "in the loop" and can take over whenever required. SkyGrid recommends all customers and users obtain any necessary regulatory approvals for remote operations or for managing multiple drones.

This solution enables drone operators to optimize their human resources and reduce the cost of UAV operations. Drones deployed at multiple sites can now easily be operated from control centers. Subject to regulatory approvals, SkyGrid customers can augment or replace on-site pilots and enable higher sortie rates at lower cost, SkyGrid Launch allows important use cases such as unmanned public safety surveillance, inspection of pipelines, mines, and construction projects to be addressed at nation-wide or even global scale.

NASA's Artemis I Moon Mission Takes Flight With Successful Launch From Kennedy Space Center

Jacobs congratulates NASA on the successful launch of the agency's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft for the Artemis I mission, which lifted off Nov. 16 from historic Launch Pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. Artemis I is the first test flight in a series of increasingly complex missions under Artemis, NASA's deep space human exploration endeavor, which aims to land the first woman and the first person of color on the moon and establish a sustainable human future in deep space. Powered by the SLS rocket, the uncrewed test flight will send Orion on a trajectory to orbit the moon, returning to earth and culminating in a Pacific Ocean splashdown. As the prime contractor at KSC for NASA's Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) program, Jacobs is responsible for receiving all SLS and Orion flight hardware, assembling and integrating all the components, developing the launch control software, conducting final test and checkout, transporting the vehicle to the pad, supporting the launch and helping conclude the mission with the recovery of Orion. Velontra Contracts with Venus Aerospace to Deliver a Propulsion System Enabling Airflights Around the Globe in One Hour

Velontra's after-burner system will enable Venus' hypersonic aircraft to take off from any airport in the world where it will travel to any destination on Earth in about one hour. "This is an exciting relationship,"Our after-burner system rounds out Venus' quest to use their rocket engine to travel at the hypersonic speed of Mach 9 (nine times the speed of sound) as it travels along the edge of the Earth's atmosphere." Velontra CEO Robert Keane III Keane also says that this contract with Venus Aerospace is a validation of the market need for the Velontra propulsion system that can carry passengers quickly and efficiently around the globe. Their air-breathing propulsion system is up to six times more fuel efficient than any rocket and uses oxygen from the air which creates thousands of pounds of additional payload capacity. Velontra's development process is also quick and more economical than most traditional aerospace and defense contractors. The Venus Aerospace "Stargazer" is designed as an unusually sleek aircraft, proposed to be 100 feet wide by 150 feet long. It is expected to weigh around 150,000 pounds and accommodate up to 12 passengers.
