Cargolux outperforms competition in 2015 Dual Hub Strategy leads to positive results

Luxembourg, 23 March 2016 – In its 45th anniversary year and against a background of low yields, continued overcapacity and declining volumes, the Cargolux Group performed extremely well, achieving record levels of tonnage and block hours and ended the year on a net profit after tax of US$ 49 million. The company outperformed not only the market, but also its direct competitors in Europe who, in some cases, retired freighters or reduced their air cargo activities. “It is a sign of our company’s strength that, despite the energy we needed to achieve a CWA compromise, we managed to achieve a significant boost in our performance and a healthy profit, contrary to most of our European competitors,” says Dirk Reich, Cargolux President & CEO. “While this excellent result benefitted from a reduction in fuel costs, it is in large part due to the hard work of our people, as well as our strategy and the corresponding measures that we began to introduce in 2014 in order to reduce our costs.”

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF EVOLUTIONARY HYDROGEN-POWERED AIRCRAFT

whitePaper | January 26, 2022

Aviation is a hard-to-decarbonize sector of the transport industry due to the stringent mass and volume requirements for aviation fuel. The high energy content of liquid jet fuel, both per unit mass (specific energy) and per unit volume (energy density), makes it difficult to replace. Significant emphasis has been placed on drop-in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs) to reduce emissions without sacrificing aircraft performance. But SAFs emit carbon dioxide (CO2) when combusted (carbon capture during production reduces life-cycle emissions) and their uptake has fallen short of expectations due to their high cost, limited supply, and concerns about the land-use impacts of biofuels.

A ROADMAP FOR FLIGHT AUTOMATION IN ADVANCED AIR MOBILITY

whitePaper | January 31, 2022

Skyroads AG, Munich, Germany is developing, testing and implementing an Automated Airspace Management and Vehicle Guidance System (AAVS). It is abundantly clear that a system which helps guide complex, three-dimensional traffic in congested airspace will be needed soon. Legacy ATC systems are not able to support the urban transport mode. Legislators and regulators are expecting the industry to supply solutions. Skyroads is the first company world-wide to make a comprehensive proposal. Fundamental considerations for this solution are found in our previous White Paper “Air Traffic Control for Urban Air Mobility”. The operational tasks to be solved are widely acknowledged within the current deliberations by the industry and the rulemaking bodies.
