European Aviation Safety 2014-2017

The worldwide rate of fatal accidents for scheduled passenger and cargo flights continued to decrease in 2012, providing a steady improvement in aviation safety. According to the EASA Annual Safety Review 2012 the rate of fatal accidents in EASA MS is comparable with and slightly lower than North America. Even though this is a great achievement, there is no room for complacency: air traffic is expected to almost double by 20301 and the fact that the average annual rate of fatal accidents in scheduled passenger operations2 in the European Union has remained more or less stable for the past years, makes new approaches necessary to complement the existing and successful safety measures in order to drive further safety improvements in aviation.
